The government must ban insurance companies from using genetic tests for at least three years, according to recommendations published by the Human Genetics Commission 1 May. The Association of British Insurers gave some ground yesterday, but falls short of the HGC's call.
Baroness Helena Kennedy, who chairs the Human Genetics Commission, said the existing system of self-regulation had clearly failed, with some insurance companies not observing equally the industry's voluntary code of practice
