Healthcare on a budget.

The future for healthcare in the UK will almost certainly be a mix of private and State provision. However, Tim Collison says the high cost of private medical insurance is forcing many people to look at only budget policies.

The National Health Service simply cannot cope with the growing
numbers of people requiring state healthcare. A shift towards private
healthcare for those that can afford it, in order to ease the burden on
the state, is inevitable.


Take-up of private medical insurance is still very slow, although more
operations are now being done privately. The Healthcare Partnership
reports that about two thirds of all heart bypass operations are now
carried out privately. Surgery of this nature does not come
