The Special Risk Bureau hopes to launch extreme sports and income protection covers in Q1 2004.

SRB currently specialises in life insurance for non-standard risks but believes there is a market for wider cover, according to Gary Heath, executive chairman of the SRB.

Heath said: "We are finding that motor racers and flying enthusiasts are getting in touch with us for life insurance but it is very hard to find cover for them."

He continued: "A better way to handle it is to exclude the hazardous sport
