Independent Financial Advisers and brokers have significantly
increased their market share in the critical illness and income protection
sector.


Swiss Re's HealthWatch survey found that the numbers of sales through IFAs
in 1998 for individual critical illness policies increased by 18.2%, with
their market share expanding from 29.7% to 31.8%.


Total sales from all outlets increased by 10.8% to an annual record of 694
263 new policies. Individual income protection business grew 9% in the
same period.
