Norwich Union will close seven regional offices and make staff
reductions in its remaining 45 branches in December 2001.

Ayr, Bedford, Chester, Middlesbrough, Shrewsbury, Stoke and York offices
will close, with about 200 staff affected in total.

NU aims to maintain local contact with brokers through account managers,
while commercial business underwriting will be transferred to the nearest
major office. Business will be transferred to new handling branches over
coming months.
