Q: A commercial client, who arranged his private car insurance with a direct insurer, has had a private motor theft claim turned down. He left the vehicle documents in the car and the thief sold the car. The insurer says that as the car is undamaged, it is up to the police to recover the vehicle and is not prepared to meet any costs. How can I assist?

A: As the thief has demonstrated his intention to 'permanently deprive' the owner by selling the car to another party this is clearly a theft
