Insurers are reluctant to make significant investment in preparations
for the UK entry to Economic and Monetary Union without further
clarification from the government. This is the finding of a survey
conducted by the ABI and Ernst & Young. It reveals that most insurers are
doing little more than initial assessment work. Most said they would do no
more until the government gives a positive commitment to UK entry.
