The House of Lords today stripped barristers of their immunity when working as advocates. Barristers can now be sued for negligence both in and out of court.SIF (the Solicitors' Indemnity Fund) took the case Hall v Simons to the House of Lords in order to clarify lawyers' liability in court. It wanted to establish whether negligence claims against solicitors could be thrown out of court at an early stage by invoking immunity. The House of Lords responded by removing the immunity altogether.
