Profitability has risen sharply in the general insurance market as a
whole, but fallen in the broker sector, according to the Confederation of
British Industry's latest quarterly financial services survey.


General insurance was one of only two major sectors reporting a rise in
business confidence. This sector also reported sharp increases in business
volume, average commissions and employment levels. The CBI attributed the
increases to an upswing in the insurance cycle.
