A handful of niche brokers continue to dominate the equine market. However, David Fanning says it is still possible for enthusiastic non-specialists to make their mark.
There are around 450,000 leisure horses in the UK, a number that isfalling each year. Of those, about 250,000 (56%) are insured, which would
appear to leave substantial room for growth in the market.
However, many participants discount that prospect. "The market hasn't
changed for over three years," says Richard Barrett, sales and marketing
director at Pet Plan. "If anything, the size of the market is
decreasing."
