According to statistics from the National Plant and Equipment Register (TER) plant theft has reached an all time high. In 2005, the value of equipment stolen was £43m.
In 2005, 4324 thefts were recorded by TER, 20% more than in 2004, with a 54% increase in stolen dumper trucks. 1169 excavators were stolen, a rise of 14% and this represents 43.3% of the total theft value.
Tim Purbrick, manager of TER, which maintains an international database of owned and stolen equipment, told Professional Broking
