The private medical insurance market is now dominated by two insurers
which hold close to a 70% market share between them according to a recent
survey by Aon Consulting. BUPA and PPP/Guardian Health account for 34% and
35% respectively of the total market. The survey also found that PMI
premium rates are increasing on average at approximately 6% per year, with
the vast majority of firms opting for comprehensive benefit packages and
28% of firms operating an excess.
