Many general insurance brokers shy away from private medical insurance because of its perceived complexity. However, Diane Smyth says that sales of PMI policies are set to grow and brokers should looking to make their mark in the group sector.
Private medical insurance looks set to grow in popularity, amidgenuine concern about standards in the NHS and the public's relaxing
attitude to going private.
Brokers interested in getting in on the scene might want to consider group
rather than individual PMI. There is less work involved in selling 100 PMI
policies to one company than 100 policies to 100 individuals, and
companies are more likely to be loyal to their insurer and broker.
The group PMI market is dominated by Bupa and PPP Healthcare
