The Widows' demutualisation poses a challenge to the new Scottish Parliament.

The future of mutuals is in the news again with Scottish Widows
following close behind Bradford & Bingley Building Society in losing its
mutuality.


I have to say that it all makes very depressing reading for anyone who
believes there is a genuine value in mutual ownership and that it adds a
vital element of diversity and consumer choice. We can ill-afford to lose
any more mutuals, especially those like Scottish Widows which have for
years represented the best of mutuality - above average
