Insurance Age

A stable condition.

With the PMI sales relatively flat at the moment, the leading players are fighting hard to maintain their dominance. The threat of statutory regulation is also keeping the market on its toes says Ian Lindisfarne.

It is not often that insurers and intermediaries are in complete
agreement about market conditions. However, in the case of Private Medical
Insurance (PMI), all parties are unanimous. Ask after the health of the
market and they all state that it is stable but a watchful eye must be
kept on it.

The acknowledged definitive sources for PMI statistics are reports
produced by analyst Laing & Buisson. Its most recent report shows that PMI
subscribers increased by only 3.7% in the whole of the eight years
